Institutes, Competitions & Deadlines

Prairie Arts Management Institute During this week-long institute for arts administrators from mid-America, national arts leaders provide in-depth training for arts organization staff in areas of management, finances, fundraising and programming. Dates for 2008 are June 3-6, 2008.

Annual Arts Education Institute  The annual institute provides training in developing local content standards and curriculum and discipline workshops, with professional development in the arts and learning for all k-12 teachers. Morning courses focus on SD State Standards and Curriculum Development and Afternoon workshops are designed to give the classroom educator hands-on training and ideas to implement into the classroom. Two graduate credits available. SDAC Scholarships available. 

Kennedy Center National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute The Kennedy Center National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute is a 4-week summer music program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, for student instrumentalists. Deadline is February 8, 2008.

2007 High School Congressional Art Competition Congratulations to Steven Edwards [winning entry], Flandreau High School, Flandreau and Jordan Boose [runner-up], Dakota Valley High School, North Sioux City.  These two young artists took first and second place in the 2007 art competition. Sponsored by SD Alliance for Arts Education, South Dakotans for the Arts, South Dakota Arts Council and Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.
