“Public Policy and Your Organization” taught by
Janet Brown, Sioux Falls, SD. What governments do or don’t do effects every
nonprofit organization and the arts are no exception. Understanding public
policy and how it is made is crucial to the survival of arts organizations. This
course will review how policy is made on the local, state and national levels
and how we, as arts advocates, can change policy in our favor. Whether it is
your city or county commission, local school board or state arts agency,
learning to navigate successfully in the political arena will benefit your
organization. The course will help you to mold your message, convey your
concerns and gain support from other constituencies to increase funding,
visibility for the arts and programming for your community.
