South Dakotans for the Arts: Advocacy and Public Awareness

The primary goal of South Dakotans for the Arts is to protect and increase state and national funding to the South Dakota Arts Council, which re-grants those funds to communities, arts organizations, artists, arts educators and schools throughout South Dakota.

bullet Governor’s Awards in the Arts

The Governor’s Awards are sponsored biennially by South Dakotans for the Arts and the South Dakota Arts Council. The Awards recognize South Dakota’s finest artists and supporters of the arts. They are given for: Distinction in Creative Achievement; Outstanding Support of the Arts by an Individual; Outstanding Support of the Arts by a Corporation; and Outstanding Leadership in Arts Education. Recipients are honored at a prestigious banquet attended by artists, arts patrons and government officials.
 
bullet South Dakotans for the Arts Day

South Dakotans for the Arts Day at the Legislature is held biennially, alternating years with the Governor’s Awards in the Arts. This day serves to heighten awareness and appreciation of the arts for our legislators and other decision-makers, and features the Children’s Capitol Art Show, an exhibition of artwork by students from every SD legislative district.

SoDA and the South Dakota Arts Council co-sponsor a public awareness campaign emphasizing the value of arts to the individual, communities and to our state.

The Executive Director is a registered lobbyist with the State Legislature and provides information to Legislators and Executive Branch officials on arts issues.

 

The South Dakota Arts Alive website is a joint effort of the South Dakota Arts Council and South Dakotans for the Arts. The organizations work together for the benefit of the arts in South Dakota.
